[strɔːsn], Peter Frederick, britischer Philosoph, * London 23. 11. 1919; Vertreter der analytischen Philosophie; 1968-87 Professor für Metaphysik in Oxford. In kritischer Auseinandersetzung mit der Ordinary language philosophy (J. L. Austin) und mit B. Russell entwickelte er seine Philosophie als beschreibende Metaphysik, der es v. a. um die unsere gesamte Begrifflichkeit fundierenden Grundstrukturen geht; diese stellt er in seinem Hauptwerk »Individuals« (1959; deutsch »Einzelding und logisches Subjekt«) im Sinne einer aristotelischen Ontologie nach Kategorien dar. Strawson nähert sich I. Kant, u. a. in der transzendentalen Frage nach den Bedingungen der Möglichkeit (unseres »Begriffssystems«).
